To all online jobs newbies, welcome to the family. We are always happy to have new members. Do not be intimidated by the lack of sufficient knowledge or skills at this point; we all started somewhere too and did not know much then. Step in with confident and may your hustle reward you immensely.
Some days, weeks, months, years from now, I hope to see you welcoming other newbies and encouraging them.
Here are a few things you need to know about online work (articles, transcription, video captioning, blogging, etc… kindly read this article for more info on what other online engagements you can do)
The Unwritten Basics of Online Freelancing
- It’s true that you can make authentic money online
- Online work, regardless of what you have heard, is NOT a get-rich-quick scheme. You have to learn the ropes, PATIENTLY (not in an SMS, or one WhatsApp text, or one inbox), and you have to sit your backside down, stare at your computer, drum on those keys, listen keenly – for transcribers -, buy and send bundles, follow client instructions, and concentrate like you have never done in your life. Ehe, see already reading this long list (and that is not everything) is already exhausting? But relax, it is doable; give it time and soon you will be a guru.
- In regards to learning, RESPECT and APPRECIATE anyone who makes time to give you information – coach you and mentor you – whether or not they charge you for it. It takes much sacrifice (time, resources, etc.) for these veterans to afford you their services.
Some of us literally muddled our way into being what we are; after numerous losses of funds, time, and other resources. So my darling, it’s not your RIGHT to be afforded anything. It’s a PRIVILEGE the veterans afford you when they can.
Respect their resourcefulness.
If you are the arrogant type, do not be surprised to be sent packing even with what you think is the sufficient fee to insult someone who is kind enough to show you the way.
That said, do not panic about the training. For some tasks, it is not a must that you are trained; you can get all the information you need online by following relevant posts on FaceBook where Online Freelancers interact, Search Engines like Google, Online tutorials from Udemy, Coursera, etc.
- Take heart when things do not work out as fast. I KNOW some of you ventured here (online stuff) because of the urgency for cash. Some people are just curious to see what Online Freelancing is about.
Don’t quit learning after trying for only one second. One way to avoid getting too frustrated is by gathering some information on what Online Freelancing is about, payment options, what options you have, how to succeed, etc. That way, you know you are not confined to one thing; if articles do not work for you, you can try the other options. Or better still, you can do multiple tasks and increase your job security. I know most people who do more than one Online task.
FINALLY, and once more, welcome to our world……. It’s fun and serious; exhilarating and frustrating; enriching and taking; interactive yet lonesome
But again, which aspect of life has only one side, huh?
Again, Karibu sana and work hard. When you have learned the ropes, kindly remember to reach out to others and assist them.
