Basic requirements for a Work At Home/  Online Job Career

The following list comprises the basic equipment, products/ services, and skills that a person needs to start off any task/ career in Online Freelancing.

  • Computerized gadgets: You can have one or multiple of these gadgets including, but not limited to desktop computers, laptops, iPad, Smart Phone, tablets, etc.
  • Internet connection: Scout around for the best Internet service provider in your area.
  • Knowledge of basic computer skills: Typing, editing, use of the Internet to access online platforms.

 

Additional items for specific Online Jobs tasks

 

  • Headphones: Transcription, video captioning, and virtual assistance (with audio/ video calls) comprise some of the online tasks that may require you to own a good set of head/ earphones and microphone.

 

NB: Do due diligence to know which head/ earphones are the best and safest.

 

 

 

 

  • Specific Software/ Applications: Transcription, video captioning, video making, voice over, etc. may require you to have and know how to use specific software. Data entry and other tasks may require you to have and know how to make use of some applications and software such as MS Excel among others.

  • Specialized field-specific knowledge and skills

 

Additional items/ healthy practices that save you from this occupational hazards include:

 

  • A comfortable chair: Long hours of sitting can wreak havoc on your back in the long run.
  • Sufficient lighting in your working space. Straining your eyes to see the keyboard or the monitor/ screen of your gadget has an adverse effect on your eyes. Too much light is also hazardous to your eyes.
  • Screen/ Monitor Anti-glare: Excessive exposure of your eyes to the glare of your device’s screen (especially if it is extremely bright or low) can harm your eyes.
  • Desk: Choose a desk that allows you to comfortably view and access your device without bending or stretching your body.
  • Get-up from your chair and stretch your body/ walk around for a few minutes from time to time. Excessive sitting affects healthy blood circulation to some of your body parts, especially the lower part of your body.
