Hyperlinking is anchoring highlighted text with a reference link (source). Hyperlinking can be done on text documents (such as MS Word or PowerPoint) or on websites. On Word or PowerPoint platforms, hyperlinked texts’ font turn blue and the text is underlined. On websites, hyperlinked texts can be any colour (chosen by the administrator) but on hovering over the text, there is a hand/ other icon that shows you that can click on that text to access the reference/ source that the hyperlinked text refers.

Why Hyperlink?

Quick access to the referred resources. Not everyone has the time to scroll down to the list of references to trace where their desired link is. Hyperlinked texts give quick access to the referenced resources.

Here are the steps to hyperlinking on MS Word

1 Highlight the text you want to hyperlink/ add a link to

2. On the menu bar, click on the Insert Tab

3. Scroll to your the menu under Insert and find Hyperlink (note the icon adjacent to the words *Hyperlink) just in case in some platforms there is only that icon

4. Click on Hyperlink and ..

5. Insert your web-link or document link as shown below

6. Press OK. Your text is hyperlinked

Here is a short video clip that shows you the above process.
