You can read many Motivational Quotes and inspirational quotes that will inspire you to not only become the best online freelancer but also take your life to a new level.
Besides motivation, you need to take action to make a name for yourself in your online freelancing career.
Here are a FOUR things that can set you on the path to your GREATNESS –
- Be consistent in delivering stellar work, or keep improving
- Up your skills
- Add related skills and knowledge
- Get sufficient REST
1. Be consistent in delivering stellar work, or keep improving
If you desire to scale the heights of Online Freelancing, you have to stand out; at least to your clients. Just because you are doing a one-off task for someone is no reason you should rush to deliver substandard work. Some clients make good references and some clients become repeat clients for future tasks when you deliver stellar work. If you have writing accounts with some companies like iwriter, The Content Authority, UpWork, etc. submitting stellar work consistently will improve and or maintain your good ratings. Great ratings, in effect, enable you to access high-paying jobs and more work. Shoddy work will not only lower your ratings, but may even lead to the termination of your account.
2. Up your skills
The online world is evolving by day. New ways of doing things, new applications, smart devices, etc. are always coming up, and so do the needs of different target group/ clients. Seek to know what is current and what is improving in the online world. Learn all you can to boost your knowledge and skill such as social media marketing, web content structures, relevant apps, etc.
3. Add related skills and knowledge
Check what knowledge and skills are related to or relevant to your current skills and acquire those. Sometimes, a client may have more than one need; if you can meet all his/ her online needs you save him/ her from having to outsource those services from different persons. Being in possession of diverse skills opens up doors for you; you land more jobs, thereby, earning more money and improving your profile. Udemy, Coursera, Lynda, etc. comprise some of the platforms where multiple trainers offer myriads of courses, plus a certificate.
If you are lucky, you get some of the courses free of charge or at high discounts.
4. Work Smart: Invest your energy where it counts
Working as an online freelancer can be daunting especially when you work on online platforms/ companies that require you to bid (send an application) for each job. However, this bidding process also works to the advantage of most freelancers as they can set their rates (charges per online job) instead of just working for an already defined fee.
Don’t worry, not all accounts/ companies require you to bid for every single job; some companies post their jobs on their dashboard and anyone can pick the job of his/ her choice and work on it.
To avoid the frustration that may come with sending too many applications and not landing the desired jobs, it is paramount for every online freelancer to invest his/ her energy in jobs that s/he has the highest potential of winning and making good money. Here is a video that may guide you through this process.
5. Get Sufficient Rest
WHAT? I am sure you are like “Maggie, with this one you are misleading us”.
I promise you I am not misleading you.
I am not psychic, but I can see the confusion (fed by some of the online narratives you have come across) bubbling in your mind regarding the relationship making money and resting.
Your mind is already thinking of the many posts, comments, and advice you have come across that were going on about how you must work relentlessly and rest minimally for you to make lots of monies. And all the advice pointed you to pursue any and all ventures in order to make it.
Well, if you have never heard, WRITER’s BLOCK is REAL.
Writer’s Block is a state of diminished mind activity due to fatigue. During this state, the mind’s activity slows so bad in one or multiple aspects that it can barely process a full thought to fruition. Writer’s Block is not a state that affects writers only; it affects most people who solely depend on their brain’s generation of ideas or a certain level of concentration to yield results. Musicians, novelists, movie directors, designers, etc. are all at risk of hitting the Writer’s Block; or let us put it more aptly, they are at risk of being hit by Writer’s Block.
As an online freelancer, especially one who creates or needs a high level of alertness to keep up with all that is going on so s/he can respond, Writer’s Block can be your worst nightmare. If you depend on the daily sale of your services or products, your revenue source might come to a shocking halt if you experience Writer’s Block since you cannot engage (satisfactorily) any more.
So yes, rest is important. Ensure your brain and body get enough time to accustom to something else. If you are forced to engage in an online task for a long time, it happens, make sure to give yourself ample time to unwind once the task is finished.
Here is an article that talks about how to get over Writer’s Block.
Feel free to add other tips that can boost your Online Freelancing success.
